Day 4 - Improvements People Improvements!

Day 4 is dunzos! Today was actually pretty good I was somewhat able to do most of the goals I set out for today, well except for gameplay T_T.

I redid several of the graphics making them look a lot cleaner. I redid the dirt sprites to make them less busy and brighten them up, so now I have 2 very slightly different tiles that I used to create the ground.

I also implemented the animation directions for the worker ant. Small win it worked the first time and remembered how to do it from setting up the player's.

I also made a really cute animated patch of grass. I think it looks very cool in game! Tomorrow I might create a small animated mushroom thingy.

I was able to kinda get pushing working, the player can push the ants and the ant won't move past immovables. However, the ant very quickly becomes misaligned with the grid system. The more and more you push it the worse it becomes until the raycast checks just stop working correctly. Another issue is that the player can just move into the ant if the ant can't move away, hopefully this is just an easy fix with a layer mask.

 Why T_T

Apart from crying over the pushing bugs, I started making music! Following yet another brackeys tutorial, I downloaded Bosca Ceoil and got to placing notes. I play piano and have done music theory before so composition wasn't too new to me. I made a short 8 bar repeatable theme,  base chords are Dm --> G --> C --> Am. Everything in C major to keep it simple and just 3 instruments. I might rework it or make a calmer theme later but I'm happy with where it at the moment.

Goals For Tomorrow :

  • Just Try and get the pushing to work properly
  • Implement water dying, hopefully not too hard
  • Make some sound effects for when moving
  • Creating a small particle system when the player moves
  • Create another animated decoration (A worm!!! digging)
  • Design some puzzles on paper
